Weddings at St. James

Of all the many arrangements you will be making for your wedding day, the arrangements you make with the church are the most important. The following material is provided to assist you in planning for your wedding at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Congregation of Coopersburg, PA. The people of St. James Congregation celebrate the love you have found in each other and, along with the staff, are glad to serve you in your preparations for marriage. As you plan your church wedding, you will find that there are choices which you can make to individualize your service. However, there are certain guidelines which need to be observed as a guest in God's house.

 Scheduling and Arrangements

Careful planning for a church wedding is necessary. Please contact the church secretary or fill out the form below as soon as you have any idea regarding a possible date for your wedding.  This should be no less than six months before such a date.  It is important that the date and time be approved and confirmed early to avoid any conflicts on the schedule of the pastor or the church building.

No weddings are to be performed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, or during Holy Week.  Please be mindful that the pastor and church staff have vacations and holidays, therefore any wedding date request for the weekend of a holiday (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, New Years Eve, etc.) must be approved by the worship team and staff.  Weddings are discouraged during the season of Lent as well, due to the church’s emphasis on self-denial during this season of preparation and reflection on the Passion of our Lord.

A wedding coordinator will be assigned to your wedding to assist the pastor during the wedding rehearsal and on the wedding day.  The coordinator will also be able to help answer questions you may have about details such as flowers, candles and logistics. The church secretary will prepare the wedding bulletins for the bridal couple. All information for the bulletins should be given to the secretary at least 4 weeks prior to the wedding. The bridal couple is responsible for the purchase of the bulletin covers. The church organist should be contacted as soon as your wedding date is approved.  The organist will send you listening CD’s and arrange for a conference with you to review music and make selections for your wedding ceremony.
